Chinese Seal Character: Gong Cheng Ming Sui Shen Tui

Fill a cup to its brim and it is easily spilled;
Temper a sword to its hardest and it is easily broken;
Amass the greatest treasure and it is easily stolen;
Claim credit and honour and you easily fall;
Retire once your purpose is achieved - this is dao.

Education Faces Problem in China

Yesterday it is the first day of 2007's College Entrance Examination(CEE) in China. It's already 30 years since CEE restored in 1977 after "Culture Revolution".

At the first 15 years, there were less college students in society, and universities had no power to recruit new students. So college students became scarece resources and were assigned (job/work) by the government. Entering into any college means he/she definitely had a job after graduation. At that time the road to the college was called "Narrow meandering footpath".

Though 30 years have passed and college matriculating rate increased from 4.7% in 1977 to 56.85% in 2006, entering into college is still a way to get good job for most young people.

Thus,school score report is almost the only standard to judge whether a student has prospect or not.And this judgement starts from primary school to high middle school. Some parents even educated to their children"It's more than enough if you have high score, other things don't need to care about."

Parents are in pursuit of high score,schools are in pursuit of high score. Some children become "high score but low ability". When these children go into universities and leave their parents nobody but themselves take care of them. Their abilities to live are so low. They don't know how to arrange their bed,how to wash their own clothes,how to get along with others. The worst is that they even don't have basic moral concept in their mind. There is such phenomenon:"Learn primary schoo books in kindergarten,learn middle school books in primary school, learn college books in middle school, and learn MORAL in college".

In a camp ativity for Chinese students and Japanese students, Chiense students showed bad  independence and abidance to game rules comparing to their Japanese partners.

Many Chinese parents and people have awared that this high score standard will hurt children. Some education lovers built up especial training schools for children. One of the famous one is called "West Point Boys Training Center(WPBTC)",similar the name of United States Military Academy at West Point. The purpose is to train boys into future real man by using closed,militarized management model.

WPBTC recruits 6 to 11-year-old boys,especially those who are mischievous and bad behavior in shcool, and cannot controled by parents. A letter will be sent to the parents before they decided to sent their children to the center. The letter stated that" any miscondcut behavior will be punished according to the extent of the mistake. The main penalty items include:eating chilli sauce, eating Huanglian(a herbal medicine which is very bitter),long-distance running, doing 100 pushups,flogging. If you feel painful about your child,pls informed(means don't send your child to the center)."

Some people oppose the method of "flogging", thinking that it breaches the Law on the Protection of Minors. In fact,the so called flogging just uses a rope wrapped with cotton, and it's seldom used. Flogging is executed in in front of all other children. The purpose is to let the punished child to has the feel of losing face.It's very light flogging.

Though there are opposed ovices, WPBTC is welcomed by many parents. So far no any complaint from any parent. On the contrary, they said their children becomed diligent,matured good boys after training in WPBTC. By word of mouth, many parents line a queue to send their children into the WPBTC.
